I finally rewatched Past Lives, and I cried again because, believe it or not, I'm a strangely sensitive dude.

The thing that stood out to me about that film is that, it was written and directed by a woman, and I see myself in all of the male characters in the film.

I've never had a romance that crossed oceans. Still, there's a myth that, if you're really in love, it'll conquer all.

I've been in love, and known that those feelings were shared; but, the time and the place and the circumstances were wrong.

Time can heal wounds as well as it can create them.

There are women in my life who I'll always have feelings for, while also knowing that ship has sailed.

I know that, if we were both single at the same time, and living within the same zip code at the same time, we might be together, or we might not be; but, we would have had a better shot.

I've also been in the position of being the man with a woman who loved someone else.

It's not fun.

The key difference is that the man in the film had his trust vindicated, while I had mine betrayed.

Still, it's incredible how the writer and director of this film portrayed the male side of the story with such sympathy and empathy.

As I said months before, this movie is a love story in its purist form.

It's even better upon rewatch.

The lead of the film is a woman, who deserves an Oscar.

Still, as a man, this hit me as hard as any love story I've ever encountered.
