Somehow it took me several years after seeing I am Cuba to finally see the other film that director Mikhail Kalatozov and cinematographer Sergei Urusevsky are famous for -- The Cranes are Flying.
Let's just say that dropping Netflix in favor of The Criterion Channel was a good move.
The Cranes are Flying didn't wow me in the way that I am Cuba did; but, Kalatozov and Urusevsky were visual masters.
Some of those old Soviet films are absolute gems.
