This is my first time watching this film since I saw it in theaters. It's insane that this film is already seven-years-old.
I've seen all of Yorgos Lanthimos's feature films. It might be controversial to say that this remains my favorite (even above The Favourite).
It occurred to me that Lanthimos might be aptly compared to Lars Von Trier -- it's just that he's a Lars Von Trier with much more talent, a lot less pessimism, and generally seems to be less of a dick.
Lanthimos's films are all weird. They're all rough to watch in their own ways. They touch on subjects that most filmmakers wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.
Still, his only miss, so far as I'm concerned, was The Lobster. Even that movie didn't miss for me by that much.
He's up there with Robert Eggers for me in regard to filmmakers who have rapidly emerged as consistently bold and interesting. I don't plan on missing any of his films.
