The BBC has acquired the thrilling Irish crime drama KIN, an eight-part series produced by BRON Studios (Joker) and Headline Pictures (The Man in the High Castle), from FIFTH SEASON for BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The drama's cast is led by Clare Dunne (Herself), Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones), Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones), Sam Keeley (The Cured), Emmett J. Scanlan (Peaky Blinders), Maria Doyle Kennedy (Outlander) and newcomer Yasmin Seky.

A boy is killed and his family embarks on a gangland war with an international cartel: a war that is impossible to win. The Kinsellas are a local crime family, while the Cunningham cartel is a vast global organisation. It is David and Goliath. Out-numbered, out-financed and out-gunned, the Kinsellas find themselves holed up in their Dublin stronghold while their businesses fail, and family members and associates are picked off. But they have something the cartel does not: the unbreakable bonds of blood and family. They are kin.

Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, says: “Anchored by a tremendous cast, Kin is a powerful and intense story of love, grief, family and crime, and its devastating ramifications.”

Jennifer Ebell, EVP, EMEA Sales and Acquisitions at FIFTH SEASON, added: “Kin aired in Ireland to critical acclaim and has generated record-breaking ratings across both linear and on demand. The series has clocked up more than 4 million lifetime streams in Ireland, with the second season averaging a 40% audience share in its Sunday night slot and its finale becoming the most-viewed programme of the year outside of sport. We’re thrilled that Kin has found its UK home with the BBC.”

Kin (8 x 50”) was acquired by the BBC from FIFTH SEASON (Killing Eve, Severance, Tokyo Vice). The series is written and created by Peter McKenna (The Last Kingdom, Red Rock), who also serves as showrunner/executive producer. Executive Producers on the series are BRON Studios’ David Davoli (The Defeated, Bag of Bones), Samantha Thomas (Jessica Jones, Daredevil), Steven Thibault (Pieces of a Woman, Capone) and Aaron L. Gilbert (Bombshell, Joker, Fences); Headline Pictures’ Christian Baute (Man in the High Castle, Funny Games), Laurence Lenica and Frank Calderon; and Ciaran Donnelly (Altered Carbon, Vikings), who is also co-creator.
