Louis Comfort Tiffany began his artistic career as a painter, later he became to experiment with glass. The first results of his work in the field of stained glass did not satisfy him. The quality of Glass made at that time, in the last third of the 19th century, did not meet his requirements. Tiffany greatly appreciated the power of light and the natural beauty of this material.
With the support of his family, he acquired a glass factory and began to experiment. In a short time he achieved remarkable results and was able to produce his own glass windows.

By 1900, Tiffany was already one of the most famous glass manufacturers in the world. In his workshops appeared pieces of glass that had never been seen before. Tiffany's department stores, probably the largest in the world, contained up to 200 tons of glass with approximately 5,000 different shades, classified and designed according to his specific system.

Thanks to the use of new types of glass ( such as Opalescent glass, iridescence Favrile Glass, Streamer-, Fracture- and Drapery Glass ) he had successfully mastered tasks such as displaying the surface of water or foliage with a single glass plate without the use of painting. Only for the pictures of hands and faces he used black-brown color black solder.

Tiffany mixed different shades in the production of glass and "painted" his pictures with them. He chose colors very carefully, and if the desired tone was not in a glass plate, he laid three or four glasses in the so-called "sandwich method" on top of each other until he got the desired tone.
