Senko Hanabi are traditional Japanese sparklers, and IMHO are the best small firework by far. They produce these wonderful fractal branching sparks that must be seen to be believed, no picture can adequately capture their ethereal instant beauty.
They don't look like much at all, a twisted piece of tissue paper with a red end, that when ignited burns at first, eventually producing a little ball of glowing bubbling slag, which after several seconds begins projecting the beautiful sparks. It must be held very still lest the little molten ball fall to the ground. Thy don't like wind either. They recently became available in the US.
