Greetings dear friends, it's the first week of the Steemit Learning Challenge and I'm delighted to share my participation in the contest organised here by this teaching team which they titled Empowering Life-Saving Skills: A Guide to First Response and Basic First Aid. Going through the course material I noticed that is knowledge packed and interesting and for that reason I will like to share my thought based on the questions given below.

Without further ado, let's go straight into the business of the day as I try to attempt all the given questions in my own words. Please read through and ensure you drop your valuable comments on this post. Let's get started.

While in camp during my service year to my dear country Nigeria, some years back, I was asked to join Red Cross an emergency unit responsible for providing first aid to corps members but I declined because I never saw any reasons for me to do that.

One day, while we were running in one of the competition organised by the camp official myself and my friend were also in queue and was the next to run but because of the sunny weather he couldn't stand much longer and all of a sudden I saw him on the ground he fainted.

I became so confused and don't know exactly what to do because I never had any knowledge of what to do when someone suddenly slumbs. I rushed out to call on the other of my colleagues to help because I had zero knowledge on what to do.

Immediately they arrived they poured water on him and then took him to the shed and continued faning him until he regained consciousness. I felt so horrible that day because if the other person's where not there I couldn't have known exactly what to do and that could have mean that the young man may give up the ghost before I will sort for ways to take him to the hospital.

That incident taught me a lot of lesson so I decided to go back and join Red Cross association where the basic first aid treatment and guide was given to me because I'm supposed to also save a life when the need arises. So that is my story about when I had zero knowledge of first aid treatment.

Imagine you are walking back home, when you witness a road traffic accident between a car and a motorcycle, and the motorcyclist is lying on the road, not moving. There’s some bleeding from his leg, and he appears to be unconscious. You being the first responder, how will you manage this scenario? (1.5 marks)

Such a scenario entails you saving a life and if I find myself in such as scenario the first thing I will do is to try and carry the motorcyclist out of the road and keep him or her beside the road where he or she including myself who is to attend to him will be save.

You will agree with me that I need to prioritise safety first before attending to the fellow because if the motorcyclist remains on the road we can't be sure that other vehicles coming or going will stop considering the incident that happened so to be on a safer side and to reduce the harm that will come to the motorcyclist it is best to take him out of the road.

While we are beside the road on a safer side I will go ahead to check if he is breathing or not by tapping on his chick for response and also the level of the blood coming out from his injuries. If he is not responding, I will have to immediately perform CPR on him to ensure he get revived immediately.

In doing this, I will have to place my hands on his should and then bend him a bit to ensure that the airways are opened and free so that if there is any blockage to airways they can be cleared and the air will go into him and he can be revived.

Immediately I notice a response from him or her I will be sure that stage one has been completed successfully and the next stage is to look for a bandage or any clean material around and use it to tight the area when he has the injury to reduce the bleeding or the blood coming out of him. When I do that and I'm sure that both has been achieved, since it is an emergency which may not have much time to perform other things there I will hurridly look for ways to rush him or her to the hospital.

I can call the emergency numbers or better still, those passing by can assist with their cars or motorcycle so that we can rush the person to the hospital. Nigerians are very good in assistant when it comes to a situation like this so I believe that should be the next step.

I have provided answers to the best of my knowledge on the Google form provided for this task. I attempted all questions according to the instructions given in the form and I do hope to get corrected in any where I have made some mistakes.

I want to finally invite a few friends to also share their participation in the contest if they haven't done that already. I invite @josepha, @suboohi and @dove11 to share their participation in this contest.
