Steelhead Count

This was in the soquel river near the ocean.
After wading into our waders the volunteers stepped into the river. Two volunteers in a row boat layed out the fishing net.
Once it was pulled in to half circle we started measururing fish in a small tub and scanned them for microchips.
I didn't find any with microchips so I guess the fish were new since the last count.
This fish count was hard work. The water was cold, the sun was scorching and pulling in a huge net was heavy. However, I felt accomplished after this count. I have always liked working with fish and this was a nice activity.
