Today is the first day of fall which means the days are getting shorter and the water is getting colder. Generally the first month of fall is extremely good striped bass fishing so we geared up and headed out. When we got to the launch we were in luck, we were the only people in the parking lot. Generally there's ten or more boats going in and out. Which sometimes can be a hilarious show watching people try to launch their boat, but when your fishin' you're trying to get in quick! The weather was also amazing, 80 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.
We departed from the launch and headed down the river!
Stripers here we come!
Becca hooked up on a schoolie almost instantly when we started fishing!
Schoolie: Small striped bass generally under eighteen inches.
A few minutes later I also hooked up on a small schoolie. We saw that coming though, where there is one small striper you're bound to find tons of them. With that in mind we decided to head out and find a new spot.
We found a nice spot not to far from the launch. We used a lot of gas fighting the current in the mouth of the river so I decided to stay close to the trailer. There wasn't many people around so I anchored in between two lobster boats and started casting down the river. Nothing was hitting my Rapala lure so I switched over to a 1960's diving style lure. Within five minutes I had a notably sized fish on the line!
It wasn't as big as I had hoped for... but it was better than all the schoolies we had been pulling in! We tried the same spot for a while but had no more luck. It started to get late so we decided to pack up, head home and go watch the Patriots game.
Well at least you caught something. Also, what a game man! Third string quarter-back WOOOO!!!!
