Staying lean and fit

in fitness •  6 years ago

I’m on a spring break trip with my daughter and some friends at an all-inclusive resort in Mexico. This means all food and drink are included, and at every meal there are large buffets.

I’ve been on a health kick since mid-December, partly with this trip in mind. From my beach chair under a palm tree, I will share my strategy for staying on track, and how it’s going so far!

I lost about 13 pounds in the last 3 months, dropping from 141 pounds to 128. It’s an amazing feeling to get down to a weight I am happy with! I still have a few more I would like to shed, but now that I’m on vacation, I am focused on maintenance.

That’s me in the white shirt. Three months ago I wouldn’t have been comfortable wearing that shirt! I was all about covering up because my extra pounds were all collected around my mid-section.

So my strategy is to start each meal with fruits or vegetables, and then add some protein and a bit of carbs. About 3/4 of what is on my plate is wholesome and fresh. I leave the meal feeling satisfied but not stuffed!

Oh man, I don't think I'd have the same willpower as you. I'm sure I'd justify it all somehow; my cheapskate brain would probably convince my big mouth that my skinny wallet paid for the chance to eat all this food and surely I wouldn't want my wallet feeling like it got cheated, right?

Looks like a good start to a great trip!

Ha ha! I know! I think that is what goes through a lot of people’s minds because they pass by me with plates heaped high, struggling under the weight of it. I think, “power to you, dude, you have big goals”

Jayna you look great!!! 13 pounds in 3 months is seriously impressive. Good for you to stay on track even through vacation... that’s so hard to do when there is so much yummy food everywhere. 😅

Thank you, @coruscate! It does really feel good. Mostly I am not tempted by the heavy foods, fried stuff, bread and treats. When I started this journey, I set out to create sustainable long-term habits. It’s amazing how you lose your taste for those things after a while!
