I've been keeping up with the walking, and getting another 3 walks done this week. All three of them were longer than the week before's outings, which was always my hope and plan too, leading to me almost having my goal completed.
Thanks to @aussieninja for the encouragement and organisation. He did a post about half way being passed, and while this is more a 2/3rd's update, I feel that I'm only about half way with my late start to the month, so this could be my half way update, but I don't see me doubling my distance in the next 9 days!
First up I don't know how to count it, so I'm not, but on Wednesday I went to the pool with my fiancee and her parents and walked many lengths of the pool. Would probably have only been 250-300 m, but it's in water, so much more than just the distance. I've been enjoying these sessions over the last month.
The first walking outing was going to gaming last Thursday. To increase the distance with this one, I decided that I'd head in a bit earlier and go to Gumshara for dinner. They do such a good thick Ramen which I'm sure I'll write about in the future. It added about 2 km to my normal Thursday trek, bringing the evening's total to 4.2 km.
After that, I've done a couple more local walks playing Our World (and I've updated my map from the last post below, adding blue and yellow for this week)
The blue path gained me 3.6 km more distance, including going back up those steps. I didn't realize before that there were so many of them, or that they were located in front of just 1 house. It's around 25 steps and just one short flat landing around 2/3 of the way up. Not the sort of verge that I'd be wanting to have in front of my house.
The yellow path was yesterday's wander, done after getting the latest update from my mum about her health battle. I had a good friend call me and we chatted for around an hour whilst I walked and played the game. Was really helpful and didn't notice the distance I was doing until near the end when I was really starting to puff. Turns out that the up hill section on the way home was after the 4 km point of what turned out to be 4.55 km of back and forth covering a lot of the local streets that I haven't walked before. I may have to set out to cover the other streets that I haven't covered yet inside the large and small block, but the small block is done except for some of the little back alleys that don't go anywhere. But it's a new goal all the same. Walk all the streets!
With the overlap and mess this is creating, I think I'm going to do a grab from google maps and start marking the streets I've covered, and highlighting each new walk only
I'm going to continue walking, and see how far I get this month, but I'm not stopping there as I'm also part of the year challenge on mapmywalk. Not that all my walks have been in there, and this time was the first time I remember it stuffing up and losing me some distance. It only tracked until about the second last block of the outward portion of my walk yesterday, so dropped a bit over 1 km. Still took my year total there to over 21 km thanks to the walks with my sister back in March/April.
So where am I up to with my goal for this month? Well, this week's over 12 km has taken me to 24.15 km/25 km. It was a small target at the start, but it was also a target that I was concerned I wouldn't make. I've not been doing enough walking in the first part of the year, so this is certainly turning that around. Thanks to all the people that have been encouraging, especially @linnyplant who encouraged me (and many others) to sign up.
