On his YouTube channel, Brandon William has attempted to train like some of the fittest people in the world, from American Marines receive David Goggins. In a recent video, Tom Stoltman, the current World's Strongest Man, who has held the title for the past two years, spends time teaching William everything about what it takes to be a competitive strongman.
The visit of Brandon begins with a 5:30 a.m. wake-up call: To help him let go of daily tension so he can concentrate on his training, Tom and his brother, Luke, accompany him to the closest beach for a swim in the icy sea. Luke attributes this to helping him. The brothers then give Brandon a deep tissue sports massage, which makes him feel much worse. Luke explains that Tom has been using this way of healing for the past three years. "Pain earns titles for World's Strongest Man!"
After the massage, the Stoltmans take Brandon to breakfast to fuel him for their workout. They have a full Scottish breakfast, which easily contains a few thousand calories, and also includes eggs benedict, sausage sandwiches, multiple portions of brownies, and banoffee pie. Because you can eat things like this, Tom claims that being a strongman is preferable to bodybuilding. Once there, Tom and Luke will guide Brandon through four different strongman events. Brandon adds, "Since I've never tried strongman lifts, my goal is to set my PR in each one."
The log press is the first. Brandon increases his weight after being given the appropriate technique, reaching his maximum at 50 kgs (110 pounds). And it goes without saying that the Stoltman twins are pumping out repetitions on what is a relatively light weight for them, but Brandon is having trouble reaching a single-rep maximum. He reaches his maximum weight of 35 kg (77 pounds) in the dumbbell clean and press, after which they go outdoors for the yoke carry. Before being loaded, the frame weights 200 kg (440 pounds), and Brandon is only able to make a few steps before giving up.
The Atlas stone lift is the fourth and final activity. Brandon admits that he was becoming weary at this point, but he was determined to reach the 100-kg stone, which is the first one you'll see in a competition. Tom Stoltman, a record-breaker in this field, fortunately gives Brandon some advice on how to lift the stone as efficiently as possible. He fails to accomplish his goal, though, and weighs just 85 kg (187 pounds).
He claims that today is both his strongest and most trying day. British freelancer and journalist Philip Ellis writes on pop
culture, relationships, and LGBTQ+ issues. Man Repeller, GQ, Teen Vogue, and MTV have all featured his work.
