Record Flooding In Clive Iowa- Steemit Embedded Video

It is the morning of 07/01/18. We had record flooding here in Clive and the metro (Des Moines) area late last night. We were already saturated from a week of rain with many rivers and streams swollen throughout central Iowa. Well, we had a large storm system blow through here yesterday afternoon til evening and it just caused a mess. Around 11pm last night, a flood emergency was declared prompting neighborhood evacuations and mobilization of every agency in the area. Cars were stranded in the flood water and more rain was on the way. They did a fantastic job! I was impressed. They anticipated which areas will be affected and swooped in with road closures, sandbags, evacuations, the works. Everyone worked as an efficient team. All in all there was only one loss of life.

Neighborhoods around us were evacuated and streets just a block away were closed. We are on a hill so we were safe. We were prepared to move our cars up the road to get them out of the parking lot, however. We kept an eye of the situation until about 2am or so. We do not have personal experience with flooding so this was a new experience for us. I, of course, took it as a practice opportunity. I made sure we were all set to go if needed regardless of how safe we thought we were. That's just me.

In this video, I take you only about a block from my home. This is the aftermath in my neighborhood and it's an improvement from last night. I couldn't film in the pouring rain nor was it safe to be out last night. I show you the same river before in embedded pictures so you can see the drastic change. This is that same river I filmed my Mother's and Father's Day videos! Ya know, the one the bike path follows so I had some before pictures from walking the path. The news last night said all previous flood records were broken. The metro area was much worse so just picture that while watching the video.
