These ducks do not acknowledge his name " migratory birds ". They spend the winter with us.
They are not going to leave their favorite place in the Park by the pond.
They are very used to people. It is easier to find food in this Park than in the wild.
Wintering waterfowl in an urban setting in the North-West of Russia (in our Saint-Petersburg) is an amazing phenomenon. Scientists are now studying this question.
Ducks-Mallard ducks in winter needs to fly away in warm edges. It is a law of nature. Why they have lost this instinct? This question is still poorly understood.
Of course we like to think that they liked our Park so they decided to stay.
But whatever the reasons of their behavior, we love these birds. We have them protected. We feed them. We welcome this close contact with them.

@madlenfox
That is the exact same thing that has happended to the "Canadian Geese."
When I was a child. We would see the "V" shape of the Canadian Geese flying south to warmer climates in the Autumn.
And they would be honking as they flew along. Even at night.
Not so much anymore though. You can see them all winter in select areas of our state. They like it where they are. And they are feed well.

Our geese and swans seem to hang around all winter as well.

Perhaps they reflected climate change. So they change their habits.

excellent images dear friend @madlenfox, I love wild ducks, here in my province there are several of them, here they are not so friendly, they fear people, you can only observe from afar, it is good that these are accustomed to people.
Thank you very much dear friend, for sharing this beautiful images
I wish you a beautiful day.
