Mighty, yet frail. The tree stands strong and tall, but its cracked bark slowly peels, reminding us of the brevity of life. Though strong we stand, there is yet one life, and soon it shall pass.

I had a check - it's the tree bark of a Senegal Mahogany (at least, that's what I believe it is)! Singapore has them planted along the roads, so I happened to pass by one on the way home from school and decided to take this macroshot.
