Don't say gay bill is being read wrong - Mostly because people don't/can't/won't read these days.

There was a recent interview with a gay teacher in Florida about the "Don't say gay" bill that's illustrative of how utterly wrong people are about this.

The teacher, who I assume is teaching kindergarten through third grade because those are the only grades the bill covers, said that he was afraid of retaliation if he talked to his students about going paddle boarding with his partner over the weekend.

So, the teacher was either lying, hasn't read the bill and has just been buying the media lies, or his reading comprehension is so poor that he shouldn't be teaching anybody's kids.

The bill is about the curriculum. Unless this teacher is testing students on the details of his paddle boarding adventure with his boyfriend, he's fine under the law. Still, one has to wonder why a teacher is so desirous of discussing his personal life with a bunch of five year-olds regardless of sexual orientation. Being a teacher isn't the same thing as having a talk about your weekend with a coworker by the water-cooler.

The controversy over this innocuous bill is maddening. There's this magical thing called "reading" that fifty percent of my generation is somewhat capable of doing. Read the damn bill. The bill isn't about telling teachers that they can't acknowledge their student's parents if they're gay or any bullshit like that. It's about making sure that the curriculum being taught to kindergartners is focused on the ABCs and 123s and not on people bumping uglies.
