The afternoon of blossoming

Full blossom at midnight

The flowers begin to bloom in the early evening and is fully blossomed by midnight. They have a heady fragrant, very strong, very nice - which I like very much. The unfortunate thing is that the flowers died by morning. Perhaps that's where they get their name 'Queen of the Night' - beautiful fragrant, and flower in full bloom for only one night.

Neat cactus most of mine flower in the daytime, just for a day... My dad had some that would open up a huge flower for the night. They smelled amazing to attract moths to polinate them.

Thanks for dropping by. Ah, that explains why they smell so good - because they are short-lived, they need to attract the moths or insects to pollinate them before they die. I learned something today. Thanks!

No worries. I think a lot of them flower at night because there isn't as many bee's in the dessert so they depend on moths and night creatures. Too hot for the bee's...

You are very knowledgeable. :-) Cheers!
