This morning I had ear training exams of my 6th graders. In a non air-conditioned building in the middle of this heat we are having right now I had to sit and listen to 11 kids sing scales, intervals, chords and chord progressions, sight-reading of one voice melody and singing of prepared in advance one voice and two voices exercises.
Each person had as much time to prepare as the one before took to fulfill the requirements of the exam.
It took about 3 hours to listen to them and to grade them. Before the exam they brought me these flowers which was a big surprise.
Usually kids give flowers after exams but more often than not, today's kids don't bring flowers at all.
They must have liked me after all. Good, because I will be teaching them ear training and basic music theory next year as well.
