It bodes well for the US flu vaccine. The circulating flu viruses were similar to the viruses in the flu vaccine.
The US flu vaccine has A/Victoria/4897/2022 for the A(H1N1)pdm09 viruses. This is in subclade 5a.2a.1. It performs well against both subclade 5a.2a.1 and 5a.2a, so if the same viruses dominate this flu season in the US it should be a good match.
There wasn't enough H3N2 virus to get a vaccine effectiveness estimate, but so far it isn't circulating much in the US this season.
The US flu vaccine has B/Austria/1359417/2021 for the B/Victoria viruses. This is in subclade V1A.3a.2, so again it should be a good match if the same viruses dominate this flu season in the US.
We still haven't seen B/Yamagata virus globally since March 2020. It may have gone extinct during the pandemic mitigation. The quadrivalent flu vaccine still has a B/Yamagata strain in it, just in case. But since it isn't circulating, the quadrivalent and trivalent flu vaccines this year are essentially interchangeable (the trivalent doesn't have the B/Yamagata strain in it).
Make sure you get the flu vaccine this year. You can get it with the new coronavirus vaccine
