I have always loved drones and the many uses for drones, but I have never thought or imagined that they will one day be used in the place of cars, for personal transport, or taxis!! Bye , Bye Uber, I can now drink and fly home, without smoking something, that is bought from under the counter!! LOL.

An autonomous drone has a number of advantages over an autonomous or driver-less car. Car's are restricted by roads and have to interact with other cars that could be autonomous or human driven. Humans can make mistakes that can be difficult for autonomous vehicles to predict or avoid, and all this happen in the confinements of a road. With low level flight these restrictions will not be there. The drones will fly at low altitude, thus will not affect or be affected by airplanes. They will not be restricted by road confines and they will not encounter human controlled drones. It will be easy to avoid accidents. A further advantage is that the drones will work in a 3D space against a 2D space for road going vehicles. This gives more options to avoid other traffic. Below is a video of a drone taxi.

These drones can carry one person with a bit of luggage. On a full charge it can fly for about 2 hours and reach a speed of about 100 km/h at an altitude of around 3500 m.

Some other advantages are that there currently is no congestion in the air. You can also fly directly to your destination, as you don't need to follow the road, you go as the crow flies!! Nice. You also have a birds eye view of your surroundings, which will be interesting. While flying you can also keep yourself busy, by reading replies on your steemit articles, or by reading some other steemit posts. This seems idyllic!! No concentration needed to steer your vehicle through traffic.

You can read more about these drones by following the links in blue. Most of my information comes from these two links.

Will you feel safe enough to fly in a autonomous drone like this?

@rynow thank you for sharing!
I think its cool but having fear of heights and being skeptic about autopilot I'd rather bike 40 - 50 kms - its not just a healthier option but safer I think :D

Thank you for your comment, I also don't like the auto pilot that much, but it seems this is where the world is going to.

@rynow indeed - we all want fast phase plus control
but this must be freaking expensive so i wonder if it would sell

Entered ,Thanks !👍
What a cool post ! It would be so cool to take a ride home or out in one of those things ! The future is going to be amazing ! Thanks so much for shareing !

Thank you for your reply and comments, it is appreciated.

Just last week (or so) Elon Musk stated he is not believing at all in flying cars due to lack of solid roads, ie it'll be a chaos with high risk of accidents when a lot of people will start flying.

Although technology can create virtual highways, Elon may indeed have a point, since these virtual highways require solid technology to create and for all flying vehicles to have the appropriate systems on board. This is already quit difficult to arrange for road vehicles let alone for flying vehicles where much more strict rules will start to be applied in all space what at this point in time is called "uncontrolled airspace". I mean: the uncontrolled airspace will soon become controlled airspace, declared by the existing air traffic control organisations as well as government, the moment some accidents start to happen.

Interesting, thank you for the comment, and for reading.

One word, parachute? :-)

Hi @steempoker, even a parachute will be dangerous with the rotors below the cockpit!! Perhaps an ejection chair would be the answer.
Thanks for reading and commenting.

Put a parachute at the drone, emergency stop rotors?

Yes that will work, good idea!!

To our sewing machine!

Wow, very cool!
