Augerino: Fearsome Critter

in folklore •  6 years ago

Like the Slide Rock Bolter, this fearsome critter from Colorado is a destructive creature.

The Augerino is a subterranean worm. Hailing from Colorado he also enjoys his underground life in other Western states, as long as it is dry. Because the Augerino is fond of dry conditions, he tends to attack waterways and destroy dams and irrigation ditches , boring holes in them to release the water.

The name Augerino was derived by combining "auger" with the diminutive suffix -"ino", although this tends to be misleading. While he does tend to drill holes like an auger, he is anything but diminutive. Those who claim to have seen the Augerino state that he is massive, a gigantic worm with a body somewhat like a corkscrew or drill bit.

Legend has it that the Augerino lines his tunnels with a silica substance to prevent them from collapsing, and that the Augerino tunnels are a vast underground network underneath the western states, allowing the destructive Augerino to move quickly for his next plot of mayhem.

A subterranean augering worm. I like it. Kind of reminds me of the movie tremors. Lining the walls with silica to prevent collapse is a smart adaptation. Very cool
