The Dark Watchers: North American Folklore

in folklore •  6 years ago

Among the rugged tops of the Santa Lucia Mountains in Southern California, travellers should be wary of spotting the haunting figures known as the Dark Watchers.

Do not let the familiar human body fool you, the Dark Watchers are not human. No one has ever reported seeing their face, as the dark watchers are distinguished by the long black cloaks they wear and the darkness that silhouettes and hides their features. Some reports of these creatures mention them donning wide brimmed hats or wielding long walking staffs. While these humanoid figures may resemble humans in their shape, the size of the Dark Watchers sets them apart. Legend says that these eerie creatures tower above humans, with heights ranging anywhere from 7 to 15 feet (2.1-4.5 meters).

The Dark Watchers are commonly spotted at dusk or dawn, however there have been sightings of these mysterious entities in broad daylight as well. The common emotion of those who encounter these enigmatic beings is fear, although the Dark Watchers are not known to attack, and no one even knows if they have sinister motives. The creatures are known only to observe, staring out over the mountains they call home. According to those who have attempted to approach a Dark Watcher, the figure tends to vanish as soon as they get near.

The way this started it was really starting to freak me out. But then with their cloaks, large brimmed hats, and walking staffs they started to sound like wizards which are less freaky then me. Might be different seeing one in the woods at night though

This is terrifying to me. Why did I stumble upon this so late? And also, Why would anyone try to go near it!
