The unknown snack

in food •  5 years ago

Yesterday we went to the bakery nearby to have a quick snack. There were a few things there looking like cake to me, one with nuts in it, the other with chocolate. The third one said "Makos", which I didn't translate first. I decided to buy one with nuts in it and the makos one. I told my daughter it was chocolate (lol, it looked like that to me) and gave her a piece of that one, while we ate the one with nuts in it.

Soon I found out it wasn't cake, but more like a bread dough instead. But the one with nuts was ok. She started eating and eating and said she like the other one. I had to try it, so I took a bit of the Makos one as well, instantly wondering how on earth our toddler (who is a bad eater at the moment) could chew on this and actually swallow it as well..

Both of us found it disgusting and quickly flushed the nasty taste away with water. We asked her if she liked it, yes was the answer, and she ate about half the thing. I wasn't able to get the nasty taste out of my mouth for a while and wondered what on earth I bought. So I googled it, and it turns out these are poppy seeds. These things seem to be a " delicious" Christmas snack. Not for us though, although the one with nuts was ok, I don't think I will ever buy these again ...

Did you ever buy a snack without knowing what was in there? And did you ever fail horribly like we did yesterday?

Yeah I remember this from being a kid but I don't think I ever saw it over here. I remember that I liked it though lol.

It reminded me of marble cake when I saw it calling me in the bakery :-)

But so many things that I haven't tried yet here in Hungary, I thought let's give it a shot, forgot the name though, only remembered what was in them (dios, makos and chocolate)..

You liked these when you were young? Or the ones with nuts or chocolate? My boyfriend isn't a difficult eater like we are, and even he was disgusted by the taste of this one :-)

Yeah I did, they weren't bad to me, it was both the taste and the gritty texture, I used to eat the seeds right out of the pods.

Lol, well I assume more people like it, as it's sold like a delicious treat. Only 3 fillings and one of them I just don't like. But then again, there are more things sold here that I really really don't fancy ;) The texture of this was a bit like the coffee that stays behind in the filter when you have made yourself a good old fashion pot of filter coffee..

Let me guess, you don't like the jellied meat or the dried fish?

Haha these I didn't even try, I'm not a fish person, only eat some fish sorts, and none of the fishes I see here (anywhere) except for smoked salmon or another fish in a sealed pack look appealing to me to try :)

Jellied meat is not something I would try anyway ... bit of a difficult eater haha, if the eye thinks it looks bad, probably I will skip that ;)

Lol you're missing out!
