I spent a summer in Costa Rica when I was 20. I'm now 44 and it is still the best summer of my life. I never surfed, but white water rafting, fishing, hiking, biking....EVERYTHING outdoors was amazing. Not all the advances we have in a more modern country are better. Don't waste your youth people. Travel and enjoy these destinations as much as possible before you begin your life as a responsible adult.
