“I could never do that!”
That’s the response I get from most people when I tell them that my diet is Whole Food Plant Based.
I really wish there was another term to describe it. It’s confusing, WFPB.
“Oh you mean you are a vegan?”
No! That comes with too much baggage.
So if you don’t know, here’s what WFPB is... I eat raw or minimally processed food that comes in it’s original wrapper. And it comes from a plant. Not a man made manufacturing plant. A green, grows outside in the sunshine plant. It’s leaves, fruit, tubers, seeds, stems, and all the other things vegetable.
Don’t worry. I get enough protein. Plants have protein. That’s where animals (also known as meat) gets it.
So what do I eat almost everyday? There are a few basics that I make sure I eat regularly.
Here’s the list.
Beans... 3 servings. A serving is 1/2 cup.
Berries... 1 serving. A serving is 1/2 cup
Fruit... 3 servings. A serving is 1 medium sized fruit.
Cruciferious Veggie... that’s something from the cabbage family. 1 serving. A serving is 1/2 cup.
Greens... lettuce, collards, spinach, etc. 2 servings. A serving is 1 cup raw or 1/2 cup cooked.
Vegetables... this is the non-leafy stuff. 2 servings. Again 1 cup raw and 1/2 cup cooked.
Flax seeds... 1 serving. That’s just 1 tablespoon. Make sure they are ground.
Nuts... 1 serving. A serving is 1/4 cup.
Whole grains.... 3 servings. A serving is 1/2 cup cooked grains or a slice of bread.
These foods are the basics you want to get in yourself daily. I tried to keep the list kind of generic to allow for personal preferences.
In addition, drink enough water.
Get some daily exercise. Walk for an hour. No it doesn’t have to be all at once. Do something to maintain strength.
Does this regimen work? No you have to do the work. I’m officially a senior citizen. I take no medications. My BP is normal. I still have my hair.
If you want to learn more about this stuff, just search for Whole Food Plant Based, preferably on http://Ecosia.org.
There is an app too. Look for Dr. Greger’s Daily Dozen.
And one more. Science based nutritional research at http://NutritionFacts.org.
Watch for or ask me for recipes in the comments.

I totally support this and want to thank you for putting the information out there :) You're completely right about the vegan baggage, I run a contest on here every week that is promoting veganism because it's less confusing (though still confusing) to people in transition or who don't have any idea about these dietary preferences but the idea is just to inspire and educate exactly this kind of information! <3 Love it and am happy to see more of this on here!
