Sea vegetables are unique plants that most people in the world don’t eat much of.

Certain people who live close to the ocean, especially in Asia, eat some of them regularly, but that’s about it.

Yet, they are very rich in some of the most beneficial collections of nutrients out of all plants in the world.

All sea vegetables are rich in iodine. Iodine is very important in the proper functioning of your thyroid, which in turn controls your metabolism and therefore your energy level and ability to maintain a healthy weight. Iodine is often gotten from iodized salt, but too much salt causes problems with blood pressure as most people know.

Iodine also can cause allergic reactions in some people if taken as part of a supplement. But if they get their iodine from sea vegetables, like kelp, their allergic problems are alleviated.

Sea vegetables, including bladderwack, have been shown to be more than just superior sources of iodine though. They’ve been shown to balance the functioning of the pituitary gland, the pancreas, and the prostate. They have likewise been shown to thicken cell membrane walls, regulate hormones and glands, and strengthen the immune system.

Sea vegetables contain the widest range of minerals out of all individual foods. Our blood contains just about every mineral that can be found in the oceans (our ancestral home, genetically speaking), so these minerals are extremely important to us–and they contain them all too.

In addition to iodine, they are rich in vitamin K, magnesium, iron, calcium, and the B-vitamins riboflavin, folate, and pantothenic acid. Lignans, plant compounds that fend off and prevent cancer, are also contained heavily in sea vegetables. In giving you plenty of B-vitamin folic acid, intake significantly reduces the risk of colon cancer, according to plenty of research.

In fact, these phytonutrients are clinically tested and found to fend off angiogenesis (blood cell growth) which is the process by which advancing cancerous tumors gather more nourishment and send out cancer cells into the bloodstream, originating metastases in other parts of the body. Furthermore, lignans have been found to be as potent as some of the powerful synthetic chemical drugs at preventing estrogen synthesis in fat cells. This is important because fat tissue is a primary site where estrogen gets synthesized in women past the onset of menopause, and high levels of 4OH and 16OH estrogen metabolites are known high risk factors for breast cancer.

Getting more sea vegetables in your diet can only help you become stronger, more energized, and more likely to live to a very old age (with your vitality intact). Clearly they should be included in any health-promting diet.

I'm allergic to iodine. I wonder if the sea veggies would affect me the same as like shellfish. I can eat seaweed without a problem.
