What would you like inside your pita pocket??
Tehina? Hummus? Salad? Fries? Shawarma?Falafel??
Choices are endless!

Here you can learn how make your own pita bread pocket and fill it in with anything you love!

Don't you just LOVE the smell of baking?!
It's fun to create your own bread! Ever since I started making at home, I rarely buy from the market. I usually store fresh bread in the freezer and just thaw whenever I’m in the mood for a tasty piece of bread 😊.
From homemade rolls/ buns to Challah Bread and now even PITA BREAD!

Living in Australia, I haven't yet found that perfect fluffy pita bread that I'm used to from home. So I've started to make them myself and its AMAZING! Watching them puff up suddenly in the oven and creating their own pocket ... and ahhhh... that smell!

The pocket makes it great for stuffing any food you'd like or you can even make some seasoned chips! - simply cut the pita to pieces, toss with Za'atar or other spices and bake to make homemade pita chips!

As part of the Saturday Morning - Healthy Mediterranean Style Breakfast recipes for this week- here's:

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN PITA BREAD - recipe @Cooknbake:

Ingredients:
1kg bread flour
2¾ cups warm water
2½ tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon dry instant yeast
1½ tablespoons salt
3 tablespoons olive oil

Method:

  1. Sift flour into a mixing bowl. Add water, sugar, yeast and mix until combined. Add salt and oil and using a dough hook attachment and knead 4-5 more minutes at low speed until dough forms and becomes soft and slightly sticky.
  2. Turn dough out onto a floured work surface and form into a ball.
  3. Place in an oil greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let dough sit until it has doubled in size (1½- 2 hours).

4.Remove dough from bowl, place onto a floured work surface and knead with hands 1-2 minutes.
5.Cut the dough into 8 pieces

6.Form each piece into a round ball (while pulling dough from the sides and tucking the ends underneath the bottom) and cover with lightly oiled plastic wrap. Let rest for 30 minutes.

7.Sprinkle a bit of flour on a work surface.
8.Flatten each ball flat with your fingers/rolling pin, forming a 14-15 cm in diameter round pita.
9.Place on baking sheets and cover with lightly oiled plastic wrap. Let sit for about a half hour.

10.Place on baking tray and bake for 5-6 minutes in a preheated oven (on high temp.- 250 degrees), until the breads puff up and turn a lovely golden colour.
(Tip: make sure it each time you place the pitas in the oven- the temperature is still 250 degrees- the strong heat is what makes them puff up!)
*There's no need to flip the pita in the oven.

Stack cooked breads on a clean surface and wrap them in a cloth to keep them warm and soft. Allow to cool before cutting them open and filling the pockets.

Stuff the pita and ENJOY!

You just made my day! I love making falafel at home but always had to make make then in a wrap kind of way because I can never find pita bread at my grocery store. I'd been considering baking them myself but wasn't too sure. Now that you've shared this amazing recipe, I'm definitely going to try them. Thanks for sharing! :)

Thats great that you make your own falafel! It definately deserves a pita with it!! Glad you enjoyed the post ! Id love to know how it turned out if you get a chance to make!
Just remember to place them on a floured surface or baking sheet after you flatten them , otherwise they will stick to the counter... 😉 just a tip🤗
I appreciate your comment and support @girlinchief! Have a great day dear!😙

Ça a l'air bon :)

Merci @kalypso56!!🤗

These pita look really good! I like to put kebab or falafel inside with some tomato, cucumbers, mint or parsley, tahini and chili flakes!

Haha!! Yes!! Thats perfect combination!! And a bit of hummus as well 🤗
You know your food well@chefsteve😉😄

When I make pita I have a hard time getting the pocket on the first few breads until I roll it to just the right thickness.

Ooh - I had no idea this is how you make pita! I love pita bread but never tried to make it myself, I had no idea it's this easy. I definitely have to try this recipe. :)

Glad you liked it @scintillaic! It's definately worth it!! 🤗 hope you get a chance to give it a try!

so good!!!!

Thank you dear @cryptomma!

Im definitely going to try doing this im not one to bake but ive been wanting to try it.

Glad to hear @orlena😁 definately worth a shot! 🤗

This is an awesome post! Thanks for the info and the recipe. I always find that the ones you buy at the store are too hard and they break apart as soon as you try to put anything in them. I will definitely be trying this out at home. They look delicious!

I know! The ones in the supermarkets are tough to fill in... thats why I decided to make these at home.. I missed the authentic pita taste!!
I hope you'll get a chance to try it, ill be happy to hear how it went if you do @bozz 🤗
Thanks for the lovely comment!

Thanks for sharing!

Im happy to hear that youre going to try it out! 🤗 id love to know how it went!

Great question! You can either make seasoned chips (cut the pita to pieces, toss with Za'atar or other spices and bake)
Or
What i prefer- place them in a ziploc bag and keep in the freezer! That way youll have them any time you want!
Thanks for asking @sweetjoy!

Thank you.
I have a yeast package!!! I will let you know!!!

😄 great!!!

Yay! I love pita bread with hummus, pickled cucumber and lebanese grill! 😊

Yuuuummmm! I totally agree with you @arrliin!😁

that looks great. I will have to making that.
I have tried the Chapati or Roti, as my wife grew up eating roti on her island, but my technique wasn't right or something, cause they didnt puff up in the pan. but these look fairly easy to do! thanks.

Thanks fir your great comment! The important thing to make it puff you need to make sure that the heat is very high in the oven- 250 degrees at all times. And also not to flatten them too much before. Keep them at a 14 cm in diameter. Good luck!!

These look delicious! I love using pita bread for sandwiches. I usually stuff them with turkey and cheese or chicken salad. I have never thought to make my own, but now I want to try this recipe. Thanks for sharing!

The best thing- they are perfect with any filling! You appreciate it even more when you make the pita yourself:)) i hope you get a chance to try it out!

By the way, was snooping around your blog 🙃 loved your how to posts! Will be looking forward for more:)

Looks very tasty! I love making breads, too! The smell is just heaven, to me...I can tell it is for you, too! Thanks for sharing
