Weekend Scones

What could be better than making scones in the early morning and enjoying it for breakfast?

Scones

Scones are super easy to make. The whole process, including baking, shouldn't take more than 30 minutes.

Scones are prepared with baking powder which makes them best suited for immediate consumption. Freezing them and later defrosting them in the microwave could be an option, but remember that they tend to get hard and stale if stored in a plastic bag for a longer period.

They are best served fresh, straight from the oven! (maybe leave them for 15 min so they are not smoking hot... ;) )

Ingredients

  • 500 g Wheat Flour (8 dl)
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 100 g Margarine or Butter
  • 300 g Milk

Instructions

  • Heat the oven to 250C degrees.

  • Mix flour, salt and baking powder in a bowl.

  • Add the margarine/butter and mix well with a fork, knife and/or your fingers. You should aim for a fine powder without any big lumps of flour.

  • Add the milk and use a spoon to mix it into a solid dough. Tips: Make it into a dough quickly and gently, with as little movements as possible. This will prevent the Scones from becoming hard. Thanks, @sukhasanasister

  • Divide into 4 equal sizes and prepare as shown in the picture.

  • For each piece make a cross with a sharp knife and use a fork to create a simple pattern.

  • Put in the oven at 250C degrees and bake for about 10 minutes.

Enjoy your freshly made scones with your favorite topping. Butter, cheese, jam, marmalade, clotted cream etc.

Printed out post, ate it, tasted like paper. 1/5 stars.

put it in the oven for another 10 min, add some butter, jam and cheese and it'll be grand. ;)

Haha so stupid that it made me laugh.

Looks deliscious!
Haven't made scones myself in years,
now looking at your picture, I just might again 😊

You definitely should. ;)

Baking is so precise though, I guess that's why I don't do it to often, ADHD and being precise isn't always the best combo 😁
I love cooking (more freedom)
But scones aren't to hard to bake, so you tickled my baking bone, might have a go next weekend 🤗

Coffee or tea? Let’s have some with this be over soon :)

Let's go for tea. I'll put on the kettle. :)

Cool @danielsaori, you got to send mine down to Nigeria. I never knew you are good chef

I've sent you a few. Hope they arrive in good shape. ;)

Lol. . thanks man

I've baked scones for a living and have never seen them made like this (a hot-cross bun!) Will try and see how they taste! Remember folks: do not over-mix the mixture. Work very quickly and lightly, bringing together with something as unintrusive as a palet- knife if you have a heavier hand. (Or they'll come out of the oven hard as rock already!)

Thank you! After adding the milk, that's when you should quickly work it into a dough, right?

I think you are right about the shape, I have never seen them like this outside in a shop or cafe. But for a family, it is very convenient. :)

Looks delicious!!I will try making it this time:)

Thank you! :)

Hello I have prepared breads, but with fresh yeast, I will make it with baking powder, as you indicate here, thanks for sharing this recipe.
Greetings from my kitchen

Nothing beats bread with yeast, but scones are a super quick way of making bread that is possible with baking powder.

Those are some very nice looking scones. My favourite ones are cheese scones. I like the savoury better than sweet.

Out of the oven and served with just butter. Yum!

yum yum :)

The scones look delectable. From your recipe, it looks quite easy to make too. I'm not much of a chef but I think I might handle this dish. I will try it!

Thank for sharing. :)

Great! Please share some pictures if you make some.
