Spicy and Sour Food "Asam Keu'eung" typical Aceh food.

Good morning all..

Are you a traveler? Or a typical food lover of the archipelago? If you like typical local food especially spicy and sour food, you can visit Aceh. Aceh was famous of Tsunami, but not only that, Aceh also famous with that use spices.

The recipe of acidic, spicy Aceh cuisine is the Asam Keueng. Almost restaurants in Aceh serve this menu. So you will find it very easy to find the cuisine of Asam Keueng in Aceh. Asam keueng is a type of cuisine that is available every day and not just on certain days.

Each region in Aceh has typical Asam Keueng cuisine and has almost the same flavor, which is both spicy and sour. Sour taste in this dish is not derived from tomatoes or vinegar but from "Asam Sunti", asam sunti starfruit that has been in salt and dried. If you are interested to try this cuisine, let's follow the steps below.


Ingradients :

  • Milkfish
  • 5 green chili
  • Star fruit in thin cut
  • Salt to taste
  • Water is sufficient

Ingredients to make asam keu'eung flavor:

  • 5 pieces of red onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 3 segment of turmeric
  • 10 Chili pepper
  • 10 asam sunti

How to make asam keu'eung :

  • Blend marinade for asam keu'eung. And mix the spices with fish until evenly distributed.

  • Add water to the fish and also input green chili pepper and starfruit leaf and put the skillet over the fire.

  • Wait until cooking and asam keu'eung ready to serve and eat with family.


Asam keu'eung although it has a spicy and sour taste also uses a portion of turmeric so the war is more visible yellow. The main ingredients make asam keueng not only fish, but can be replaced with shrimp. Or you can create asam keueng by using other ingredients. That is the recipe for asam keu'eng cooking which has a special spicy and sour taste of Aceh. Asam keu'eng is very tasty when eaten with warm rice. Surely you must prepare the tissue, because you will be made to sweat because of the spicy flavor.

Usually the people of Aceh use the skill from the clay to cook it, but if using a regular skill also tastes good. How to make this dish is not complicated and easy for you to try yourself at home. But there are two things that are still difficult to find outside of Aceh that is sunti and curry leaves.
