Eggs contain vitamins A, D, B-6 and B-12, as well as calcium, iron and magnesium. Many people love to eat them. Their bright yellow and white colours add cheer to a meal!
Here is a guide to cooking your eggs exactly right every time:
The first thing to remember is to keep your eggs at room temperature. It is unnecessary to keep them in the 'fridge.
Boiled Eggs:
A favourite breakfast for children! They love to dip their soldiers into a runny yolk.
Start with a saucepan of cold water and bring it to the boil.
Using a slotted spoon, dip the eggs in and out of the boiling water to reduce the chance of a thermal shock cracking the shell.
Lower the eggs fully into the boiling water.
For soft boiled (runny yolk), boil your eggs for 3 - 5 minutes. A little longer, 7½ minutes, will boil a firmer-but-not-hard yolk. This yolk will not be dippy. For hard boiled eggs, cook for 10 minutes.
Carefully remove the cooked eggs from the water.
Enjoy!
Fried eggs :
Fried eggs are a mainstay of the 'Full English' breakfast. Here is how to enjoy them at their best:
Using a frying pan, pour oil to 3 mm deep and heat it to medium hot.
The tricky bit is to crack the eggs slowly into the oil without puncturing the yolk. This comes with practice. Never crack them fast as the hot oil might splash.
Spoon a little hot oil over the yolk.
For a soft/runny yolk, fry until the white is firm. For a hard yolk, turn the egg over and fry until the yolk solidifies. (About a minute.)
Enjoy!
Poached eggs :
These delicious eggs are cooked in a similar way to boiled eggs but without their shells.
Bring a saucepan of water to the point of boiling.
Crack the egg into a large spoon then gently lower the spoon into the water.
Return to the point of boiling and cook for 5 minutes.
This should produce a poached egg with the white fully cooked and the yolk still runny.
Enjoy!
Scrambled :
Light, fluffy scrambled eggs, yummee!
Crack your eggs into a bowl.
Beat thoroughly with a fork or whisk till the egg is smoothly mixed.
Place bowl in a microwave.
Cook on full power for 1 minute.
Remove bowls and beat partially scrambled eggs with a fork till mixed again.
Repeat cooking for 1 minute and beating to remix until the eggs are fully scrambled but still wet. This time will vary according to how many eggs you are cooking.
Season to taste
Enjoy!
