The tamilok, a wood worm which tastes like your familiar oyster, is a famous delicacy found in the Philippines. Tamilok is the vernacular term for woodworms, which are found inside the trunks of rotting or fallen mangroves. The sight of these slimy, gray worms might not be quite appetizing
Mangroves are usually the plant home of it,they can be easily seen on the dead roots
So for some this delicacy is not so ordinary ,many tourist are coming to try it! Despite of its unpleasant appearance It’s rich in iron, calcium, zinc and vitamins A and B12. And it doesn’t have much calories. Other country like thailand have their exotic insects and snakes as for the Philippines we have this distinct delicacy or somewhat exotic food that we can be proud of.
How to make kinilaw na tamilok:
INGREDIENTS:
10-20 pieces tamilok
4 tablespooons finely chopped onions
1/2 tablespoon chopped siling labuyo (chili pepper)
4 tablespoons freshly squeezed calamansi juice
1/4 cup vinegar
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Wash the tamilok and remove the hard portion in the head.
- Put the cleaned tamilok in a bowl and add the remaining ingredients. Mix well.
