RC Cola & a MoonPie

Snack foods were omnipresent in my home growing up. My mom would usually buy Drake Cakes which included things like Devil Dogs, Ring Dings, and Yodels. Sometimes Little Debbie would be mixed in as well. When it came to soda other than A&W root beer I held no loyalty towards Coke or Pepsi. My mom would buy whatever was on sale and a cola that was in our fridge throughout the 80s was RC Cola. In my family's credenza there was a coaster saying that RC Cola was the official drink of Shea Stadium and the NY Mets so I always had a fondness for that brand. Around my senior year of high school I started seeing ads for Royal Crown Draft Cola which looked more like a craft beer commercial, and of course I made my mom pick up some. While I was working for my town's day camp the camp’s director took advantage of a sale at Shoprite involving RC Cola so for a time in the late 90s I was selling RC.

Also during that time I was made aware of a snack cake that I never had. I think my first exposure to it was through the Simpsons. After thawing out Jasper grabs a MoonPie and in astonishment proclaims what a time to be alive. The local newspaper did a story on MoonPies as well which is where I saw that they get paired with RC Cola. I can't remember the first time I had a MoonPie but when I saw one at a convenient store I wanted to give it a shot. I wasn't blown away by it but to be honest I forgot to heat it up in the microwave.

When I moved back to Stony Point and started shopping for Shoprite I would see RC Cola from time to time and I finally had some in the longest time. A few months ago I started to think about having the RC Cola and MoonPie combination all the time. The only problem is they are rare in my parts, but that's what Amazon is for.

I ordered what is called the Redneck 6 Pack. It consists of 2 glass bottles of RC Cola made with cane sugar and 4 chocolate double decker MoonPies. It came in a cute little carrier that scenes of yesteryear on it, back when an RC Cola and a MoonPie would only cost a dime. I paid way more than a dime for it but the concept got me thinking. I loved the RC Cola and once I heated up the MoonPie I loved it too. When I finished them off I was bummed that I didn't make them last. Though the company that sent it to me made a mistake and sent me another one the next day.

As I do research to launch an ice cream truck business I wanted a loss leader that would create a buzz. I figured one way to tackle the Northeast is to use something from the South. I want to offer an RC Cola and a MoonPie for a buck and on certain days knock it down to a dime.
