Chick-Fil-A Fries

in food •  6 years ago  (edited)

I had them today, enjoyed them immensely as I do not eat them very often and couldn’t help but wonder how they make them. (I’ve wondered this before but rather briefly.) I am somewhat fascinated by them. At first, I came up blank. Then, as I looked at one, it looked as if it could have started out as a potato slice and was then put into some device that would cut out the vertical lines on one side with the vertical lines being cut from the other side.

Initially, that sounded pretty good… but that would leave behind a lot—and I mean A LOT—of unused and wasted potato. My hope would be that the powers that be for this restaurant aren’t truly that wasteful. That was when another idea came to me… What if they cook the potatoes (fully or partially) until they become soft enough to be put into waffle fry molds?... But as I write this, I pictured the fries in my mind and realized that they are not uniformly the same size and shape so that can’t be right…

There may be somewhere online where the information can be found regarding how they make their fries. It could be that it’s more like my first idea, but instead of using slices, they cut the entire potato from top to bottom with some sharp, wavy-shaped slicing device and then do it again from side to side to create the waffle design. Whatever it may be, it’s doubtful that I will Google it. It may be nice to know, but in this time of easy access to excessive (at times) information with the Internet, I think some things can lose their “magic” or “mystery” by grabbing our phones and fingertipping our way through yet another search of all that the Internet has to offer. I think I’ll just stay curious and let at least this one thing hold some mystery for me. Otherwise, I may learn the truth and something that I enjoy eating, partly because of how it’s shaped, will lose a little bit of its specialness.

No one may ever read this random rambling, but it someone does, I can’t help but wonder if they would feel compelled to share what they know or reply with a post of a link that tells exactly how Chick-Fil-A fries are made. Feel free to share, but I warn you, I will be appreciative but will not click the link! ☺

P.S. Chick-Fil-A fries are so good!!!

OK, if you want to keep the 'magic' in your favorite fries I won't tell you about knives with a wave cut (don't know the correct English word for it) and that you just have to turn the potato for 90° after every cut ;)
