Today's Sustainable Feast in the Garden of Eden

in food •  7 years ago

It is another marvelous day in the Garden of Eden, and we are giving thanks for more than enough of everything in this abundant life of freedom!

We made a delicious feast for our volunteers today on our wood burning stove rather than on the rocket stoves of our sustainable outdoor kitchen! We stayed nice and toasty, had a fantastic meal, AND heated water for showers for super sustainable efficiency. As usual, there was more than enough food for everyone, and we are happy to share our abundance with you!

Today we made a fantastic feast with fresh salad, stuffed peppers, beets with goat cheese, and a delicious and easy variation of chicken cordon bleu!

So many bright colors in this delicious meal, with plenty of hearty, warm food on this great winter evening!

We started with our daily raw salad, full of color and vibrant flavors and textures.

We started with a bed of green lettuces, then we piled on chopped apples, sliced peppers, strawberries, cucumbers, onions, sunflower seeds, and sliced almonds. It was very tasty topped with our homemade white grape vinegar, liquid aminos, and olive oil!

We cooked our food on the indoor wood burning stove today. We are sautéeing the veggie filling for our stuffed peppers on the left, and cooking the quinoa that goes in them on the right. In the back, we have stacks of bricks heating up! Because we don't use central heating, we wrap these hot bricks in a towel and cuddle with them to stay nice and warm.

Our stuffed peppers were delicious and beautiful! We sautéed the chopped pepper tops along with onions, garlic, and broccoli, and tossed this yummy mix with quinoa. We filled bell peppers with the mix, and covered them with cheese!

For a side, we steamed a pot of peeled beets. We sliced them when they were soft, and tossed them with ginger and orange juice and zest, then sprinkled them with dried cranberries, chopped pecans, and goat cheese for extra flavor and color contrast.

For our meat eaters, we offered a very easy take on chicken cordon bleu! These are thin, pan fried chicken filets topped with melted cheese and some salty prosciutto ham. They are sprinkled with fresh herbs for a pop of color and flavor!

It was a truly epic meal with plenty of food for everyone here. Substantial dishes like these are really great on these cold winter nights! We do lots of manual labor and are happy to have delicious sources of sustainable calories.

What a feast!!!

Food is important, and we hope to inspire people to really take time to eat, enjoy it, and share it with someone you love. We also hope to inspire more and more sustainable practices in regards to food!

We do all of our cooking over fire, using wood that was otherwise destined to end up in a landfill! This is our indor wood burning stove in action - it cooks our food, warms our communal space, and heats water for hot showers all at the same time!

Food is an honored & elemental part of our daily life in community. You can learn more about our unique, intimate, and super sustainable relationship with food here!

It's dinner time anyways, but you're posts are making me extra hungry. The stuffed peppers are getting the saliva going and I haven't had chicken cordon bleu in a while, so I'm missing it now. Thanks for the inspiration.

I love it! Please pass the bricks! :)

WOW! I chanced upon your post and I can't believe this is all handmade!
Everything looks so gourmet and sophisticated.
Then I read further down and I saw the mission you guys were undertaking and I'm inspired! Seeing people like you guys who volunteer and help out those in need are why society hasn't succumbed to the darkness that everyone fears.
I'm going to follow and see what else you post and you have my full support in any endeavours you have in the future!

Thank you @peterkkim96!
Food is a major part of our mission. There is more than enough of everything, and it's up to us to choose the values we want to embody - we think it's important to take care of each other, so we live a life of service.
We hope to inspire others to really consider not only where their food comes from, but how they prepare it and take the time to eat it and hopefully share it too!

Garden of Eden is full of wonderful people and nice food.

Thanks, we are inspired to make a better world for everyone!

I can not resist hunger when I see food like this, you are amazing friend. Is this all your cooking too? If food like this is in my area then I will gladly buy it.

Yes we cook everything ourselves! We are better chefs than any restaurant, and far more honorable. We offer our food by donation for anyone who feels inspired to give, but what's really amazing is that we give away dozens of meals like this every single day!

Thanks Noki!
