Today's Sustainable Feast in the Garden of Eden

in food •  7 years ago

It is another wonderful day in the Garden of Eden, and we are giving thanks for more than enough of everything in this abundant life of freedom!

We made a delicious feast for our volunteers and special guests today, and because we have below freezing weather we prepared the food indoors on our wood burning stove rather than on the rocket stoves of our sustainable outdoor kitchen! We stayed nice and toasty, had a fantastic meal, AND heated water for showers for super sustainable efficiency. As usual, there was more than enough food for everyone, and we are happy to share our abundance with you!

Today we made a wonderful sandwich feast using our leftover ham from yesterday's sustainable meal!

We started today's feast with a fresh salad with garden greens, strawberries, blackberries, peppers, and sliced almonds.

Then we made sandwiches and sides on the wood burning stove! There's a pot of soup heating in the back, and a pan of veggies starting to soften over the fire. On the left, we have spread mayo on toasting bread to start our sandwiches.

Then we layered the sandwiches up with slices of honey ham!

We topped that with spinach and baby swiss cheese.

When the sandwiches were brown and crispy on one side, we flipped them so the other side could toast. Then we sliced them for ease of handling!

We made a big platter with plenty of sandwiches for everyone!

When our broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots were fork tender, we melted on handfuls of cheddar cheese.

We served a pot of creamy, yummy broccoli cheese soup on the side, which was especially great for sandwich dunking!

One of our winter table staples is a bowl of raw garlic and herbs in oil. It's delicious and great for dressing any dish, but it also has marvelous antimicrobial compounds to keep the body strong and healthy throughout the cold season!

This was an epic, sustainable, delicious, and wholesome spread and a great way to use up our leftover ham!

Food is important, and we hope to inspire people to really take time to eat, enjoy it, and share it with someone you love. We also hope to inspire more and more sustainable practices in regards to food!

That ham looks amazing!

How many of your meals solely use ingredients from your own garden? Is it mainly the fruit and vegies?

Amazing dear..

I definitely love how geniuses they are with food, I greet my friends

A very enjoyable party in the park eden, many manakan presented. Which color is yellow noodles?

Looks very tasty 😋
I would like to join the feast next time.

I'll be over in a minute...! Ok, maybe not, but WOW. That salad is gorgeous, the sandwiches, too. I'm always seeking inspiration on way to use leftovers - it's so easy to want "new" food or to just throw it in the compost. But, as with your mission, you think of how many people don't have the luxury we do to have such bounty.

Thank you for inspiring me and for the work you do! I'm now following you!

So tasty food can you give me a recipe of these greatest dishes

What a feast of food, how blessed are they, keep helping people

Still killing it with the salad. I see you added almonds on top for a little crunch and some protein.

You said you use mayo on the sandwiches; have you ever heard of Vegenaise? My wife started using it on our sandwiches and it's tasty. It is a little more expensive though, so unless you are vegan or have egg restrictions, it might not be worth it.

I tried upvoting, but the circle just keeps spinning. I'll have to check later to see if it goes through.

looks so delicious and thank you for feeding a healthy food for all the volunteers!

Looks so delicious. Thanks for sharing with us
