My journey to become a cook: Part 1

For a bit over a year I’ve been learning to cook through friends and family because I wanted more control over what I ate and to lower my overall food expenses. So I’d like to show some of the dishes I have done (and documented). Since I hail from the Caribbean, many of these dishes may not be familiar to everyone here but at the same time, many cultures will have similar ones. I’d like to apologize for the potato quality of the pictures as well as the pictures themselves; I didn’t really take them to show them to everyone, just mostly for archiving progress for myself.

First off, I have Pelau. What is Pelau you ask? Well it’s a rice based dish that normally has pigeon peas and meat (or meats) with everyone having their own version of it. Some people use other things such as carrots and bits of pumpkin, but I kept it pretty simple.

Mine only has pigtail and beef.

Secondly we have Caribbean Curry; this is based on Indian Curry but has distinct differences, one major one being that there’s more emphasis on meat in the dishes. This one has chicken and potatoes.

Looks a little weird, but I can vouch for the taste.

Thirdly I have roast pork ramen! I think most people here know ramen so I don’t need to explain it!

Each of these still have room for improvement and I’ve learned a lot so far, but I’d like to know more and delve into the food of more cultures. If you guys like this, I'll keep doing more updates every two or so months. Also any suggestions for cultural food I should learn would be appreciated.
