The Perfect Natural Energy Drink?? - Haymaker Punch
(a.k.a. by several other names, like switchel and switzel)

I came across this recipe some time ago, I believe on the “Manward Press” website http://manwardpress.com/

It is a simple recipe that has been around for hundreds of years and was likely the original energy drink. This drink reduces inflammation, quenches your thirst, restores muscle and offers an energy boost that rivals a cup of coffee.

 2 quarts of water
 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar
 3/4 cup of honey (or molasses)
 1/2 tablespoon of ground ginger.

Simply combine the ingredients, stir them well and pour a tall glass over ice. For a variation, substitute the water with some seltzer. Or, for the fellow rum lovers, add a shot of dark rum to your glass for the ultimate drink.

Health Benefits of Ginger:
 fights inflammation
 offers painkilling properties that rival over-the-counter medicines.
 It boosts immunity
 ginger can quickly calm an upset stomach

Health Benefits of Apple Cider:
 a tablespoon or two of apple cider vinegar each day helps to balance the acidity of your stomach – reducing acid reflux and other painful issues
 helps maintain healthy cholesterol levels
 balances your blood sugar, boosts energy levels
 its high levels of potassium cut leg cramps

Health Benefits of Honey:
 It contains vitamins B1, B2, B6, C, D and E, plus calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium.
 It fights the “bad” bacteria in your gut and promotes “good” bacteria.
 Raw honey helps boost our immune system by removing free radicals from our body.
 It has antibacterial properties (rub some on your next cut).
 Phytonutrients found in honey have been shown to help prevent certain types of cancer.
 Raw, local honey is thought to fight allergies.

That is really a great drink! I am also a huge fan of kombucha! Although it can be prepared at home, I prefer buying it, as I do not want to risk contaminating the scoby in any way.
