I had to go to immigration this morning. It is one of the few times in my life that I wake up before the sun rises. I hate waking up early and when I know something important is happening the next day I always sleep poorly anyway. The only thing I was looking forward to is that I knew I was gonna splurge on this fancy-ish-looking place that I have been eyeing up for a few months.
First of all, the place is very welcoming, in a great location, and has incredibly attention to detail as far as interior design is concerned.
I don't know if that seems fancy to you but based on the majority of the places I go to, it's pretty spiffy. The staff approach you immediately and are super-friendly and welcoming.
Unfortunately, that is where the good ends.
I'm not a coffee snob and I dont' really get into what beans someone uses or type of machine etc. I would only be guessing or following a website if i tried to pretend that I know what I'm talking about but I do know when a coffee tastes....well....just wrong.
The presentation is great, the milk to foam to espresso ratio was correct but then the actual coffee just tasted, i think burned. Is that even possible? Like I said I am not a coffee snob so I don't know what the actual term is but it honestly tasted overcooked, if that is even a thing with cafe.
Next came the eggs benedict, which i absolutely love (in theory). They, once again, get high marks for presentation but that is where it ends. One thing that basically defines a good eggs benedict is whether or not the eggs are poached properly and while I am not a chef I do know that when the eggs have the consistency of the boiled eggs I make at home and barely pay attention to the pot, they have not been done correctly.
There was no runny yolks at all. They cooked the bejesus out of these eggs and then covered them with hollandaise sauce that tasted sweet and weird. Plus the english muffins that are advertised to be on the bottom (as it should be) were not English muffins, they were circular pieces of toast which once again, were cooked all to hell.
I don't like to judge a place based on just one item that is on their enormous menu but the Eggs Benedict are advertised as a "house specialty" on the sign out front and is the entire reason why I decided to go to this place. At over $10 for a coffee and 1 plate of food I consider this establishment to be rather pricey for the area.
I will not return to this place and cannot recommend that anyone else go there either. It's a pity because the staff were so friendly but this is the most expensive breakfast I have ever had in Chiang Mai and it is also one of the worst.
location so you know where to not go
while I did not submit this article for the Tasteem contests, i highly suggest you do. It's a good app and is growing because of user submissions... plus you can win STEEM
I have never had eggs Benedict, but I have always wanted to try them. I am typically a sunny side up guy, so it would probably just be a matter of whether I could handle the richness of the hollandaise sauce or not. I will have to make it a point to try them someday when I see them at a restaurant. Hopefully they will turn our better than these ones. Passing toast off as an english muffin is a huge no-no. They don't even have the same flavor. I've gotta believe that changes the whole feel of the dish...

well if you like the yolks runny Eggs Benedict is pretty awesome! Some places overdo the sauce to compensate for the fact that they don't know how to make the actual dish (this place did that)
Eggs Florentine is quite similar but uses spinach instead of meat as an additive. IF the eggs are done correctly, i think I may actually like that version even better.
