Cakes... or cars... or burgers... or shoes?

in food •  8 years ago  (edited)

So for the past year I have been making quite a few cakes for a growing number of people.

The people that ask me to make cakes generally give me quite a bit of free reign when it come to the design i.e. "as long as it has something to do with xyz" so in this respect I feel I can let the creative juices flow. I also try to make as much as I can on the decoration side edible.

The first cake I would like to show you is a shoe cake. I made the cake which was a red velvet sponge and a white chocolate buttercream filling. The shoe is made from sugar and took over a week to make. The process can be a long one with having to give each 'stage' of the shoe set before adding the next element. The only parts of this that we not edible were the diamante trim and middle jewel.

The next cake was quite a bit of fun to make. I was asked for a burger and chips so went to town on making all of this edible. I made sugar bacon, onions, tomatoes etc and even though these were mostly hidden under the top 'bun' I wanted it to be as realistic as possible. The burger was a res velvet sponge and the bun was vanilla with chocolate chips.

When a child has a party they normally have a theme to go with it. The theme for this one was monkeys as the childs favourite toy from a baby had been a stuffed monkey, which I tried to replicate on top. Again, all the decorations were made from some form of sugar making it all edible! This was a 2 tier cake, both being vanilla sponge with a jam and buttercream filling.

This Las Vegas theme birthday cake was also a great cake to make. All of the decorations are edible - even the poker chips! This was a vanilla with jam and buttercream filling.

This next cake was a vanilla sponge with jam and buttercream filling. The person the cake this was for was training to be in the parachute regiment so this was the theme asked for - with his badges replicated around the sides of the cake.

Last cake for this story is a 3d carved Mazda MX5 car. This was a vanilla sponge with jam and buttercream filling. The owners wife contacted me to ask if I could replicate his car - I jumped at the chance. The car is even complete with personalised number plate.

That's it for now - I'll get some more of my cake pics together and post some more soon.
