In this post, we will be considering 4 different recipes for chocolate cake. Choose the one that best suits your purpose. You can also try all the recipes and find the one you like most..

RECIPE 1

Ingredients:

• 3/4 cups butter or margarine, softened

• 3 eggs

• 2 cups sugar

• 2 cups flour

• 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

• 1 teaspoon baking soda

• 3/4 teaspoon baking powder

• 2 teaspoon vanilla

• 1 1/2 cup milk

Procedure

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Grease and flour three 6" X 1 1/2" round cake pans.

  3. Mix together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda. Set aside.

  4. In a large bowl, beat butter, eggs and vanilla.

  5. Gradually add sugar.

  6. Beat on medium to high speed for about 3-4 minutes until well mixed

  7. Alternately combine in flour mixture and milk to batter while beating.

  8. Continue to beat until batter is smooth.

  9. Pour equal amounts of batter into greased and floured round cake pans.

  10. Bake 30 to 35 minutes.

  11. Check with a toothpick to se if it is done. Bake a few minutes more, if needed.

  12. Remove from oven and allow cakes to cool in pans for a few minutes.

  13. Place cakes on a wire rack, to them allow to completely cool.

RECIPE 2

Ingredients

• 250g plain flour‎

• 350g caster sugar

• 100g cocoa powder

• 1 tsp ‎baking powder‎

• 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

• 4 eggs

• 250ml ‎milk

• 150ml ‎vegetable oil‎

• 250ml boiling water

Procedure

  1. Preheat the oven

  2. Grease and line your baking tins/pans

  3. For the cake, place all of the cake ingredients, except the boiling water, into a large mixing bowl. Using a wooden spoon, or electric whisk, beat the mixture until smooth and well combined.

  4. Add the boiling water to the mixture, a little at a time, until smooth. (The cake mixture will now be very liquid.)

  5. Pour in the cake batter into pans and bake in the oven for 45 minutes, or until the top is firm to the touch and a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean.

  6. Remove the cakes from the oven and allow to cool completely, still in their tins, before icing

  7. Then incase you want to frost the cake/cakes with chocolate icing, All you need to do is to heat the chocolate and cream in a saucepan over a low heat until the chocolate melts. Remove the pan from the heat and whisk the mixture until smooth, glossy and thickened. Set aside to cool for 1-2 hours, or until thick enough to spread over the cake

RECIPE 3

Ingredients

• 200g flour

• 200 sugar

• 1/2 teaspoon salt‎

• 1 teaspoon baking soda

• 3 tablespoons cocoa powder‎

• 1 tablespoon /15ml vinegar

• 100 ml Vegetable oil

• 1 teaspoon chocolate flavour (optional)‎

• 1 cup (200 ml) water

• 3 eggs‎

Procedure

  1. Sift the dry ingredients together.

The dry ingredients are: flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, and cocoa powder. Simply place all the dry ingredients together and sift

  1. Stir in the liquid ingredients and stir well.
    These are the vinegar, oil, flavour, water and egg. Some people like to add these ingredients individually, but others stir them together in a second bowl and before adding them to the dry ingredients.

  2. Pour the mixture into a greased and floured pan.

The grease and flour will keep the mix from sticking to the pan.
You can grease your pan with baking spray, butter or margarine

  1. Bake for 30 - 45 minutes depending on your oven heat/temp‎

  2. Allow the cake cool when it's out of the oven

RECIPE 4

Ingredients

• 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

• 2 teaspoons baking soda

• 1/2 teaspoon salt

• 1/2 cup butter

• 2 1/2 cups packed brown sugar

• 3 eggs

• 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

• 3 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate, melted

• 1 cup sour cream

• 1 cup boiling water

• 1/2 cup butter

• 1 cup packed brown sugar

• 1/4 cup milk

• 1 3/4 cups confectioners' sugar

• Add all ingredients to list

Procedure

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

  2. Sift together the flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.

  3. In a large bowl, beat 1/2 cup butter or margarine and 2 1/2 cups brown sugar until well mixed. Add eggs one at a time. Beat in the vanilla and melted chocolate squares. Add 1/2 the sour cream and then 1/2 the dry ingredients to the butter mixture until well blended.

  4. Add the remaining sour cream and dry ingredients to the batter. Stir in boiling water.

  5. Bake in a greased 9 X 13 inch pan for 35 minutes.
