Uo-katsu Azabu-Juban
A wonderful thing in Japan are Izakayas. It is basically a place where you go with friends or co-workers and drink and eat food and consume a lot beer and sake. The food is mostly delicious but it is not expensive. If you want to explore Japanese culture going to an Izakaya is a good idea.

Tuna Steak
While you might not expect it, these small Izakayas serve incredible food. The Sashimi was fantastic. The Toro was from a O-oma Tuna from Japan and delicious. The scallop was to die for. If you ever go to Japan please try an Izakaya and let me know if you liked it. One more thing: you can smoke in most of the Izakayas in Japan.... Smoking, drinking and great food, what else would you need?

I always look forward to your articles because you do such an excellent job of sharing your experiences. The pictures are amazing and often makes me want to revisit Japan. I agree about the smoking part.....I can't enjoy my food with the smell of smoke in the air. Again, thank-you for sharing Japan with us!

Lovely. Fatty Tuna Sashimi is my favorite. As for smoking, un;ess i have a meeting afterwards, i definitely wouldn't mind going to a restaurant which allows smoking.

Beautifully presented food. Oh, the crab salad to die for. When I lived in Japan in the early 60's we lived on a cobbled stone street until our name came up on the long waiting list for more updated housing. At the end of that street was a fish and vegetable market where nothing was refrigerated. The octopus in your post brings to mind one of the top shelves in that market that always had a few of them draped and looking down at me. Wow have times changed!
