Hello everyone!!This Sunday was Christmas eve (24/12) and it was obvious to me that I should share on this SundayCook our so typical Bacalhau da consoada that many Portuguese families prepare for their Christmas night. I had this dish on Christmas eve since ever, even when I spent the Christmas in Angola a few years ago (summer season in the south hemisphere). |
Olá a todos!!Este Domingo foi véspera de Natal (24/12) e foi óbvio para mim que deveria partilhar neste SundayCook o nosso tão típico Bacalhau da consoada que muitas famílias portuguesas preparam na noite de Natal. Este prato faz parte do meu Natal desde sempre, mesmo quando passei o Natal em Angola à alguns anos (verão no hemisfério sul). |
For this SundayCook I prepared | Para este SundayCook preparei:
Christmas cod fish | Bacalhau da consoada
You'll see how easy it is!! | Vão ver como é fácil!!
Ingredients | Ingredientes:
- 4 desalted cod steaks (about 1 kilogram)
- 1,3 kg potatoes | - 1,3 kg de batatas
- 3 portuguese kales | - 3 couves portuguesas
- salt (to taste)| - sal (a gosto)
- baking soda (to taste) | - bicarbonato de sódio (a gosto)
- olive oil (to taste) | - azeite (a gosto)
Directions
1 - Prepare and wash the portuguese kales. |
1 - Escolher e lavar as couves portuguesas. |
2 - Peel, wash the potatoes and put them in a saucepan with water seasoned with salt. Bring to a boil over high heat. |
2 - Descascar, lavar e colocar as batatas numa panela com água temperada com sal. Deixar ferver em lume forte. |
3 - When the water starts boiling, add the codfish and cook about 7 to 10 minutes. |
3 - Quando a água começar a ferver, juntar o bacalhau e deixar cozer por 7 a 10 minutos. |
4 - Meanwhile, in another saucepan (large), bring water seasoned with salt to boil over high heat. When starts boiling add the portuguese kale slowly, to avoid that the water stop boiling. |
4 - Entretanto, numa outra panela (larga), levar água temperada com sal a ferver em lume alto. Quando começar a ferver juntar a couve portuguesa devagar, para evitar que a água pare de ferver. |
6 - Turn off the heat and drain the potatoes and the cod with a skimmer, and the Portuguese Kale too. |
6 - Desligar o lume e escorrer a água das batatas e do bacalhau com a ajuda de uma escumadeira, e das couves também. |

What is Sunday Cook?!
This Sunday Cook project began with a strong will to contribute to Steemit with my personal view of Portuguese cuisine. I really believe we have plenty of good food. Despite I'm not a professional or nothing similar, I can assure that I'm doing my best, and hopefully, I'm improving my skills too!
On Sundays (cold Sundays), I like to prepare more elaborate and delicious food. It requires time and patience. Usually, I cook some traditional Portuguese food, or at least with Portuguese inspiration :) I try to do it in a healthier way, using the minimum fat as possible, and normally I pick some recipe and transform it. During the week I don't like to spend much time cooking (no time at all), that's why I get totally motivated to cook on Sundays!!

O que é o Sunday Cook?!
Este projeto iniciou-se com uma grande vontade de contribuir para o Steemit com a minha visão pessoal da cozinha Portuguesa. Eu considero que temos excelentes pratos. Apesar de não ser profissional nem nada que o valha, garanto que tenho feito o meu melhor, e espero estar a melhorar os meus dotes culinários!
Nos Domingos (quando está frio), gosto de preparar comida mais elaborada. Requer tempo e paciência. Normalmente, cozinho pratos da cozinha tradicional Portuguesa, ou pelo menos inspirados na mesma. Tento cozinhá-los de uma forma saudável, usando o mínimo de gordura possível e normalmente pego numa receita e adapto ao meu gosto. Durante a semana não gosto de perder tempo a cozinhar (nada mesmo), e é por isso que me sinto motivada a cozinhar nos Domingos!!

Esta receita sem o bacalhau é boa na mesma, ou substituindo o bacalhau por ovo cozido. Para mim é desentoxicante :)

E eis o bacalhau que tivemos na nossa mesa! Sim, decidi fazer essa conta para ela depois de ver o BTC a subir muitissimo e de um dia eu querer devolver um troco de 5€ para ela, que não aceitou. Pensei que já tinha tido outros SundayCooks em que ela ajudou muito e estava na hora de retribuir. Em vez de lhe pagar em €uros, porque não pagar em cryptos? Beautiful dinner as usual. I love how you eat a lot of fish and greens and boiled potato. Your table looked cozy and the deserts were very nice as well.
Not the gooey stuff I've stuffed myself with - now I feel blech. I need fresh food.....smoothies with greens and berries. Then I'll feel cleaner.

Thank you so much! I try to balance my meals with greens, but this is part of our traditional Christmas cod fish. Oh the deserts...there are much more, we are still having it for breakfast and snacks before bedtime. I know what you mean, today I ordered a vegetable soup to feel clean too! My Portuguese colleagues had told me about the eating of cod for Christmas, it was easy to tell how much they loved it. If I was still working for that company I would have shared your recipe on our company chat room so all the Americans could try it out although I rather suspect the desserts would have been more popular.

Yes, having codfish for Christmas is part of the tradition of many families and probably of good memories too. Ahah, maybe they would prefer the desserts, but these weren't prepared here. Last year I shared one recipe of a portuguese sweet: Sunday Cook #11 Portuguese Pumpkin Christmas dessert (for the end of the holiday season) it's similar with velhoses we bought this year. As you can imagine...it's a lot of work to prepare this pumpkin dessert!
