People say it is hard to find authentic European cuisines in China. Well, maybe except two places, Shanghai and Hong Kong. I will put Beijing on hold, because sometimes, it can turn out into a disaster by ordering some food in "western style" restaurants in Beijing.
Later last month, I had a chance to go to Shanghai for the auto show and my friends took me to an awesome Italian restaurant in the Bund. The restaurant is called Capo. It is very near the legendary Peace Hotel.
Ok, let us talk about the food!
Ham & Melon
A fantastic combination! The saltiness of the Italian ham made the sweetness of the melon more profound! You can see the marble fat in the ham. It is a sign of goodness! The Parmesan cheese was well aged! Strong, tangy, creamy, salty... very nice!
Chef's eggplant
Well-grilled eggplant with light seasoning. It was only salt, pepper and olive oil. It is very classic flavor which brings you the memory of eating delicious simple Italian pasta (olive oil and salt) in the mid-summer evening with a glass of Moscato wine. It is like that! On the top of the eggplant, there was a thick slice of Mozzarella cheese. Melted, of course. It gave the eggplant the gooiness texture of your bite. Three cherry tomatoes to enhance the umaminess of the dish, also brought the fruity flavor to the juicy eggplant. This dish is nice, but not a blast in your mouth. It is like something needs to be eaten with some drink. Like, a glass of bubbling wine.
The main course --- Norwegian Cod Spaghetti
It is very nice! The fish is very tender but still in good shape strips! How did they manage that?! The tomato sauce was made from real fresh cherry tomatoes and the garlic was crisped by being deep fried. The basil sauce was light and fresh. I guess it was made freshly daily. Garnished with veggies. Fantastic!
Some pictures of Shanghai! I hope you enjoy them!
