Food Review: Walden Farms Product Hickory Smoked Barbecue Sauce... Don't go into ketosis without it!

As someone who is not afraid of non-organic or GMO foods, I welcome chemicals over fat and carbs. And as I prepared for, and now have had gastric bypass surgery, I need to avoid unnecessary calories from carbs and fats. For the required liver shrinking diet (ketosis), which took place two weeks prior to my surgery, I stocked up on Walden Farms' zero carb, zero fat, zero calorie products to test them out. Some of them were good, some of them I would like to unbuy. So here's my review of the first one!

I can honestly say that I would not have been able to survive the two week diet without flavor or some sort. And I am all about sauce. Food without sauce is, well, dry. Chicken breast is by far my first protein choice because it's affordable. Even after surgery, I can get 3 oz in my stomach pouch with minimal discomfort. However, it tends to dry out rather quickly after cooking. So to moisten it up for easier passage through the stoma (drain from stomach pouch to small intestine), it needs sauce! I tend to turn to either BBQ sauce or mayonnaise for this purpose. And the Hickory Smoked Barbecue Sauce worked great.

Understand, this stuff is thin and runny. I used to hate that in a sauce, but since I'm hashing my chicken up for better stoma passing, I appreciate that it takes less sauce compared to a thicker sauce to moisten the meat. Visually, it's the right color. Oddly enough though, it smells like worcestershire sauce. But most importantly, it's a sweet mapley flavor, which in a low carb world, is greatly appreciated.

Because of the consistency, I doubt this would be decent for brushing on your meat before grilling. But when added as a sauce to moisten your food, this is the most optimal solution I have found in a world where every carb counts.
