Make your own real ICED TEA

in food •  6 years ago  (edited)

In Canada, ice tea is a sugary, uncarbonated beverage (basically soda, pop, or a soft drink). We're having a heat wave in Vancouver, BC, so I've made my own real iced tea without boiling any water.

Add cold water to tea bags in a glass container, and leave it in the sun to steep.

I use green and/or black tea bags and sometimes a lemon, mint, or fruity tea bag to make a fruity iced tea.

Let it steep in the afternoon sun. Then add lemon juice and sweetener and leave it in the fridge. You'll have refreshing iced tea for the evening or next morning.

If you're making a large batch for a few days, leave out the lemon juice and sweetener, and add it when you pour a glass. There's also the option of using lemon tea bags instead of lemon juice, and there's always the classic lemon wedge on the side. If you make it too strong, simply add extra water when you pour a glass.

And don't throw out those tea bags after!

Once the bags have dried out, you can collect the dried tea and use it as (organic) fertilizer for your garden. Plants love it. My sunflower is almost as tall as me now (but hasn't bloomed yet). Organic tea is more expensive (but less bitter and more flavourful), so to save money use the bags for fertilizer (after re-using them once).
