Dry January Mocktails to Make So You're Not Stuck Drinking Club Sodas All Month

in food •  7 years ago

So you committed to Dry January. Snaps for you. Whether your goal is to lose weight, sleep better, or make fewer bad decisions (so long, 2 a.m. pizza and drunk texts), there are plenty of reasons to cut back on alcohol. But giving up that post-work glass of wine or boozy Sunday brunch can be tough, even if just for a month. That’s why we’re here to help with your efforts.

These mocktails feel more festive than tea or seltzer and are loaded with whole fruit and fresh herbs, so you’re really killing two birds with one stone here. More fruit + less hangovers = a brighter 2018.

✔ Lemon Pineapple Kiwi Mocktail

Need something fruity? This mocktail is sweet and tart and starts with something you’ve probably already got in your fridge: La Croix. The mega-popular seltzer makes for a bubbly base, and the pureéd kiwi gives it an unexpected taste. If you’re feeling extra fancy, freeze mint leaves in ice cubes to add to your drink.

✔ Roasted Peach and Strawberry Fizz

Roasted fruit, an Insta-worthy layered effect… this is a treat-yourself mocktail if we ever saw one. The strawberries and peaches will remind you of summertime, no matter the season. After all, you can always sub in frozen fruit for a slightly less time-intensive drink.

✔ Sparkling Chia Kombucha Mocktail

The recipe is easy to play with: Just combine your favorite seltzer with kombucha and add in some fresh blueberries. Yep, sounds like a new go-to nightcap. Passionfruit seltzer and guava ‘booch will give you this pretty pink color, but whatever flavor you’re feeling will do. Sprinkle in some chia seeds or a lemon wedge and a fun straw to round things out. It’s the little things, right?

✔ Blood Orange Turmeric Mocktail

Can we make this an official petition for blood orange to be in more drinks, please? The rich color and vitamin C are what we need in a mocktail, and the citrus tastes so good mixed with fresh mint and sparkling water. Leave it to peppery turmeric and spicy ginger to bring the flavor up another notch.

✔ Watermelon Margarita Mocktail

You’ll probably have to lose the cool watermelon container if you want to make this in winter, but it’s too fun not to share, especially if you’re a margarita fan. Mix watermelon chunks (frozen or fresh) with agave and lime juice, then pour into a glass and top with sparkling water. If you can get your hands on a whole watermelon, go right ahead with the summery serving style.
