The sweet fruits Season is here: Why this is my favourite season πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

in food β€’Β  7 years agoΒ  (edited)

The hot season is here and so are the mangoes, melons and sweet pawpaws. This year January temperatures were so high, going out between 12pm and 2pm was a punishment.

I have a love hate relationship with this season. My favourite fruits; Mangoes, Pawpaws, and water melons are sweetest in this season. I have collected a few photos that might show you how much color this months are filled with.

Mangoes

We start with apple mangoes as December come to a close and from January other varieties arrive in the market. The heat has a certain effect on this fruit that makes it very sweet and tempting.

Going home around this time you are greeted by mango trees that have a bountiful harvest some to a point of branches breaking. And the size of those fruits. Enough for a lunch. But our fruits will not be ready for harvest till Early February.

Visiting the markets Mangoes have taken a center stage where there were mostly oranges the past few months.

Pawpaws

We have also an increased number of pawpaws. Though pawpaws are always available it is in this season they are most Sweet.

Water Melons

This is my go to fruit through out the year. A slice of this fruit easily quenches your thirst and they have a high fibre content. I cannot have enough of them. In kenya food stands sell slices or whole. While I do not trust eating a sliced piece in some places. My fruit vendor near where I live has a knack of picking out very good melons from the markets. But no matter how good he is. Other season's melons are not as sweet as they are during this time of the year.

So how do I eat my fruits?

I have come up with simple recipes for fruit salads and fruit smoothies. I will be sharing them here in my following posts.
