The Perfect Grilled Cheese
The key to a grilled cheese is not the cheese. It's actually the bread. You want to make the bread crispy and today you will learn my secrets on how to do so.
The Butter
In order to make the bread to your perfect grilled cheese nice and crispy, you must apply the correct amount of butter. All you need is a light coat that covers the entire face of each slice. Too much butter will cause the bread to become soggy and too little butter will not give the desired crispiness.
In the Pan
The trick when on the stove is cooking the grilled cheese on a medium to low heat the entire way through. By doing so, this allows the cheese to fully melt and make the bread crispy due to the butter. You do not want to flip the sandwich too many times. You should only need to flip the grilled cheese once. This flip will occur once one buttered side is fully golden and crispy. After the flip, you will need to wait for the other side to become golden brown and you should be all set.
Steps to the Perfect Grilled Cheese
- Butter your bread (above)
- Heat your pan or griddle to medium-low
- Place the bread butter side down into the pan
- Assemble your sandwich
- Cook for 5-7 minutes or until golden
- Flip the sandwich
- Cook for 5-7 more minutes
- Serve while still warm and enjoy!
