How many companies own the brands in your shopping basket? (hint it's a lot less than you think)

If you are in the US or the UK you might be shocked to find that the answer is probably 10 or less if you like to stick to well known brands.

As part of their GROW campaign oxfam released the following info-graphic to show just how much control Mondelez, Kraft, Coca-Cola, Nestlé, PepsiCo, P&G, Johnson & Johnson, Mars, Danone, General Mills, Kellogg's, and Unilever have when it comes to what is on your plate.

According to the report
"The world’s largest food and beverage companies have a lot of power – but you have more. And because they’re not using theirs enough to help poor communities or the planet, you can use yours to change the way they do business."

Excellent info! I am going to check out the grow campaign now!!

I've found it quite fascinating. It's drastically changed the way i look at food.

I included you in my latest post.

I would love to be able to grow my own, i might try a few pots to see if I can get motivated might take my mind of my pain

i started with a few herbs in spring, amazingly some have survived lol

Might try a few myself will give me something to do with my time

This is a GREAT example of why I am doing my best to grow my own food and find local meat - because companies like these don't care about general health and nutrition - they care about their bottom dollar.
Don't be fooled by the food you buy. Just because it's filling doesn't mean it's good for you. And, well, that's all I have to say about that!

I saw this and went straight out to plant the onion bulbs and potatoes I've had sitting in the cupboard for weeks. might be a bit late in the season but i might get lucky. (although i usually kill every plant in a 5 mile radius just walking past my thumbs are that brown)

Interesting. Like the chart, Upvoted

Thank you annie
