Basics of Fondue Fun

If my post on my beloved fondue pot got you interested in the art of fondue, you should know the basic rules of fonduing. It’s such a fun way to gather around and nosh with your loved ones. So here are some tips for a fun fondue:

Keep your dippers bite sized!

For a savory fondue, use cheese as the dipping substance. Add a little milk or cream to the cheese as it melts to ensure even melting. Veggies are great dipped in cheese; for a savory fondue, think cherry tomatoes, day old bread cubes, broccoli, and other vegetables.

For a sweet fondue, white, dark or milk chocolate are great to dip in. Try mixing the flavor profiles sweet and salty. Pretzels, melon, marshmallows, pretty much anything goes dipped in chocolate. I know it sounds weird, but Gouda cheese dipped in milk chocolate is one of my favorite flavor combos, and some people I know swear by chocolated dipped potato chips.

Pat down your fruits and veggies before serving to avoid excess moisture. Water could sabotage the texture of your dipping substance.

Be sure to stir your fondue pot every once in a while, to make sure that it stays melted.

Old school fondue pots like mine involve an open flame, and newer ones involve electricity. SO be sure to supervise the young ones and play it smart.

And remember, fondue was made to be enjoyed with loved ones! So gather your goodies and enjoy some good company.
